Global Warming in Boston
Welcome
What is Global Warming?
Global warming is the gradual increase of the temperature on the Earth's surface and atmosphere. There are many different factors that cause it such as pollution and the greenhouse effect.
The Greenhouse Effect is the process in which radition from a planet's atmosphere makes the temperature on the planet's surface exceed what it would be without its atmoshpere. If the atmosphere of a planet has radiatively active gases, also known as greenhouse gases, energy from the atmosphere will be radiated in all directions.
Affects of Global Warming
Temperatures increase and more heat waves
Less snow and ice
More droughts and wildfires
Thawing permafrost
Warmer oceans
Changes in plant life cycles
Rising sea levels
Damaged corals
Stronger storms
Snow and rain patterns change
Places That are Already Been Affected
Many places around the world are already experiencing the affects of global warming. Some examples are:
Sudan- The Sahara Desert is expanding each year and the average rainfall decreased by 30% over the past 40 years.
Great Barrier Reef- The increasing ocean temperatures cause the coral to bleach, turning the small animals living in them into colorless skeletons.
Alps- The snow and ice are melting due to the warmer weather and disrupting the snowfall pattern.
